Tried to fit him...that just backfired - Pundit claims Xabi Alonso doesn't 'trust' Real Madrid superstar in key position after Liverpool loss

Pundit Stewart Robson has made a big claim regarding Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham following their 1-0 loss against Liverpool. The former Arsenal midfielder has claimed that Los Blancos manager Xabi Alonso does not trust Jude Bellingham in midfield.Real Madrid were completely outplayed by Arne Slot's Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday, November 4. If not for Thibaut Courtois' stunning saves, the scoreline could have been far worse for Xabi Alonso's side.Following the game, pundit Stewart Robson highlighted how Xabi Alonso's decision backfired. He insisted that Alonso does not trust Bellingham as a central midfielder which is why he played Eduardo Camavinga on the right flank.Robson has pointed out why Alonso does not want to play a natural wide player like Rodrygo on the right. He has claimed that Bellingham's lack of defensive contribution means Alonso wants another midfielder like Camavinga filling in an unnatural position. The pundit told ESPN:"One of the reasons he had to play Camavinga on the right hand side is because he doesn't trust Bellingham as a central midfield player. If you play Rodrygo on the right with Vini down the left and Mbappe upfront, then you have 3 central-midfielders and one of them has to be Bellingham."Robson added:"But because he doesn't want to run back, doesn't want to get around the pitch as he should do, and he wants to be a No. 10; somehow Alonso tried to fit him in the team and that just backfired against him."Jude Bellingham has been brilliant for Real Madrid since his switch to the Santiago Bernabeu from Borussia Dortmund in 2023. He has made 110 appearances for Real Madrid so far scoring 41 goals and providing 28 assists. However, the Englishman has mostly impressed while in an advanced role.Meanwhile, Liverpool have now got two back-to-back wins in all competitions after losing six of their previous seven games in all competitions. They will be high on confidence when they take on Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday, November 9.Thierry Henry slams Real Madrid star following their loss against LiverpoolPundit Thierry Henry has slammed Vinicius Jr following his poor showing in Real Madrid's 1-0 loss against Liverpool. Xabi Alonso's side could not deal with the Reds at Anfield and their blushes were saved by a heroic Thibaut Courtois in goal.Henry, during his punditry duty with CBS Sports, hit out at Vinicius Jr for his inability to get past Conor Bradley. The Brazilian superstar failed to register a single shot on goal as Bradley won almost every duel against him. Henry said:"I do not understand it. You have to play with what’s in front of you, you have to play the moment. And even if there’s nobody in the box, as you said, at least the opposing team has dropped 30 yards back and then you can give the ball to your midfielder, who might have a strike from outside the box. But I don’t know, sometimes people try to be cute when there’s no need to be cute, if there is space, just give the ball, recycling the ball… sometimes it’s too scripted."The former Arsenal star added:"You have an opportunity at the beginning, for example, Vinicius Jr had Conor Bradley for the first five to seven minutes, and then he let him breathe. Why do you let him breathe? Have a go until he gets a yellow card and then he can’t defend in the same way, but that didn’t happen. When we watched the game, Vinicius Jr received the ball in a one-on-one after a good battle in the first five minutes against Conor Bradley, and he passed it back to his left-back to receive it back… and now it was a one-vs-three. Then he attacked alone against the three of them, and I thought, wait, do the math. You had a one-on-one, try to see what you can do with that. Why do you move the ball back so it comes back to you and you can play a one-vs-three? I just don’t get it at times."Vinicius Jr traveled to Anfield on Tuesday with a phenomenal record against Liverpool. The Real Madrid superstar scored five goals in five games against the Liverpool, helping his side clinch victory on all five occasions. The Brazilian forward had a game to forget as Real Madrid struggled to threaten Liverpool. He failed to complete a single dribble and also could not register any shot. He won only one of his attempted eight duels and also received a yellow card.
