Zohran Mamdani Slams Trump In Fiery Victory Speech: 'New York Will Remain A City Of Immigrants'

New York City’s newly elected mayor, Zohran Mamdani, during his victory speech on Wednesday, launched a scathing attack on US President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown across the country and said New York will remain the city of immigrants. “New York will remain the city of immigrants, a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants, and as of tonight, clearly led by an immigrant,” he said, reaffirming his commitment to inclusivity and equality. Also taking a direct swipe at the US President, Mamdani, amid a thunderous applause from supporters gathered to celebrate his historic win, said, “So, Donald Trump, since I know you are watching, I have four words for you, Turn the volume UP!” Mamdani also vowed to tackle corruption and hold the wealthy accountable, adding, “We will put an end to the culture of corruption that allows billionaires like Trump to evade taxation and exploit tax breaks.” Mamdani: “Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: Turn the volume up.” pic.twitter.com/AOFUquvYBQ — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) November 5, 2025 “I am young, I am Muslim, I am a democratic socialist and most damning of all I refuse to apologise for any of this,” Mamdani said in his win speech. Donald Trump launched a stepped-up immigration enforcement operation, leading to large-scale protests in multiple states of the country. Zohran Mamdani’s election as New York mayor caps an extraordinary rise for the leftist local lawmaker who emerged from relative obscurity to lead a supercharged campaign for the US megacity’s top job. Since his surprise victory in the Democratic Party primary in June, New Yorkers have become used to seeing his bearded, smiling face on television, and on badges proudly worn by his supporters. The 34-year-old election winner was born in Uganda to a family of Indian origin and has lived in the United States since he was seven, becoming a naturalised US citizen in 2018. He is the son of filmmaker Mira Nair (“Monsoon Wedding,” “Mississippi Masala”) and Mahmood Mamdani, a professor and respected Africa expert — leading some of his detractors to call him a “nepo baby.” ALSO READ | ‘Trump Wasn’t On Ballot, Shutdown’: US President Lists 2 Reasons Why Republicans Lost Elections
