Zohran Mamdani Names All-Female Transition Team: Meet All Members

New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani on Wednesday announced an all-female team of co-chairs for his transition team, signaling the start of preparations for his term beginning January 1. The transition team will be co-chaired by Lina Khan, former Federal Trade Commission chair, Maria Torres-Springer, former first deputy mayor, Grace Bonilla, head of United Way of New York City, Melanie Hartzog, former deputy mayor for health and human services, and political consultant Elana Leopold. Khan, known for her work as an aggressive antitrust regulator during President Joe Biden’s administration, is a close ally of Senator Bernie Sanders. Her inclusion signals that Mamdani plans to continue challenging powerful interests and pushing policies aimed at reducing the cost of living. What Zohran Mamdani Said Mamdani said his transition team will include a mix of well-known leaders and new faces. “We will cast a wide net,” he explained, “speaking to organizers on the front lines, veterans with proven track records, policy experts from around the world, and working people who know what their neighborhoods need.” He said that the team will focus on practical solutions to improve city government and prepare for his upcoming term. Funding The Transition Mamdani also asked his supporters to resume donations to fund the transition process. He noted that staff, research, and infrastructure for the team would require financial support. “I’m excited that this will be funded by the very people who brought us to this point, the working people who have been left behind by city politics,” he said. Previously, he had paused donations, but now calls for support to ensure a well-prepared transition. While Mamdani said the White House has not reached out following his win, he expressed willingness to speak with President Donald Trump. Despite being called a “communist” by Trump, Mamdani said he is open to discussions that could benefit New Yorkers. “I look forward to conversations that could serve the city, whether delivering on cost-of-living issues or addressing the impacts of federal legislation,” Mamdani added.
