Yankees Called 'Desperate Enough' to Pay for Kyle Tucker

The New York Yankees failed to repeat as American League champions this year. They could be aggressive in free agency in hopes of winning the World Series. The Yankees squandered an opportunity to win a championship with Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. This season, the team added Cody Bellinger, who could now depart in free agency. While Bellinger was great, and the Yankees reportedly have interest in bringing him back, the Yankees may feel they need another superstar to win a World Series. Even though the Los Angeles Dodgers are in the National League, they are the team the Yankees likely feel stands in their way of winning a championship. The Dodgers are loaded with superstars, and the Yankees could try to build a team full of stars as well. Kyle Tucker is the best available free agent, and his next contract could reach north of $400 million. However, there are concerns about whether he deserves that. Tucker struggled in the second half of the year, and even though he was still named an All-Star, his season did not live up to his previous three All-Star seasons. However, FanSided’s Chris Landers tabbed the Yankees as “desperate enough” to pay Tucker what he wants. “After another disappointing playoff exit, New York has to be sick of coming up short on the biggest stages,” wrote Landers on Sunday. “At a certain point, the money cannon is going to seem awfully tempting, and there’s no better target for it than Tucker. The Yankees have other needs to fill, but there isn’t really another free agent that makes nearly as much sense given their roster needs and the talent on the market. So why not go as big as it takes? You are the New York Yankees, after all.” If the Yankees are willing to pay Tucker, they could have Judge and Tucker for years to come. Many of Tucker’s woes this year could be attributed to playing half of his games at Wrigley Field. His numbers this year were much better on the road. His smooth lefty swing could thrive in Yankee Stadium, much like Bellinger’s. More MLB: David Ortiz Says He Cursed Blue Jays Star After Declining His Gift
