World Bank, AGILE team visit Bauchi Commissioner to monitor implementation of project

A high-level delegation from the World Bank and the AGILE National Project Coordinating Unit has visited Bauchi State on an implementation support mission for the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, or AGILE, project. The delegation, led by the World Bank’s Co-Task Team Leader for the project, Mr. Malik Abuzolde, was received at the Ministry of Education by the state’s Honorable Commissioner of Education Lawal Muhammad. In his welcoming remarks, the Commissioner described the visit as a crucial factual mission, allowing the partners to see for themselves what is happening on the ground. He assured the delegation that Bauchi State is rolling out all the necessary components specified by the World Bank, backed by the full support of the state government. The Commissioner emphasized that the state is running an inclusive governance model to ensure the project succeeds without hitches. He called the team’s visit both a motivation and a checkmate to ensure accountability and high performance. Responding, the AGILE Team Leader, Mr. Malik Abuzolde, explained that the delegation was in Bauchi for an implementation support mission. He said the goal was to help the state team understand some of the challenges they are having on the ground and ensure that they speed up implementation. Mr. Abuzolde stressed that the ultimate objective is to ensure the project’s benefits reach the girls and boys in Bauchi state. The team then proceeds to inspect various project sites and skill acquisition centers within the Bauchi metropolis. The locations visited included the Doya Women Centre along Gombe Road, Bauchi Technical College, Government Girls’ College Bauchi, the Bakin Kura Women Centre, and the Wayar Makafi Development Centre.
