Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur joined the elite list of ODI World Cup-winning skippers on November 2. First, the great Kapil Dev lifted the trophy in 1983, defying all odds. Mahendra Singh Dhoni followed it up by lifting the coveted trophy in 2011, ending the 28-year-long drought. In 2025, Kaur scripted history by bringing home the country’s first-ever Women’s World Cup trophy. A watershed moment, the nation rejoiced in the women’s win with fervour and acknowledged the million hurdles that stood between the Women in Blue and the prized possession. However, there is one person who may not have joined the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 victory after-party, and he has his own reasons. History Made The Indian team arrived for the final clash against South Africa at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Realising it was now or never, the women gave it their all. Batting first, Kaur’s team posted a daunting score of 298/7. Shafali Verma rose to the occasion and how, slamming a skilful 87 upfront. Verma, along with Smriti Mandhana (45 off 58), stitched up an opening partnership of 101 runs, providing the perfect foundation for the batters to come. Deepti Sharma’s nifty 58 helped India reach just two runs short of the 300-run mark. South Africa put up a valiant effort in their chase, with captain Laura Wolvaardt slamming yet another ton. However, Wolvaardt was the lone warrior in the squad for the night, and the Women in Green eventually fell short of 52 runs. Taking to Reddit, a user narrated the story of his 22-year-old brother, who had shown up for a job interview on the day after the World Cup victory. There, the poster alleged, he advanced to the last round of interviews before fumbling in the final appearance. The Reddit user claimed that the interviewers asked his brother to discuss the match details, but he didn’t have the exact information on hand. The poster revealed that their brother had been quizzed before about his “hobbies” and he had communicated cricket as one of them. As it turned out, the interviewee was rejected for his “lack of awareness”. My brother (22M) had an interview today where he managed to get shortlisted and went to the final round,” wrote the Reddit user before adding, “They asked him about the yesterday’s match details where he didn’t know the exact details( he just know that India won by how many runs that’s it ) and started fumbling heavily (sic).” “In the interview he did mentioned about cricket as his hobby. The women in the panel absolutely destroyed him ?. After wards they rejected him saying lack of awareness and some other stuffs (sic),” the OP further revealed. Hobby Or Interest? A Reddit user argued that watching cricket wasn’t a hobby but a generic interest. It was a dumb question either ways .. And I don’t think them rejecting your brother for this reason would have sit well with the management .. They prolly found someone else, (sic)” wrote one in response. Another added to the conversation and wondered if the question was a bit odd, considering a candidate would be preparing for an interview scheduled the following day instead of tuning in on a cricket finale. “It’s too much IMO for for a normal job interview, asking a candidate for details of the match that happened only a day before the scheduled interview, for many job interview will be more important then match and could be preparing for the interview (sic).” The consensus was that the panellists were looking for a reason to reject the candidate, and that a fumbled response to explain the details was a low-hanging fruit to reject someone. The day has finally come and I am super excited. It is a very emotional moment for me personally because this has been a childhood dream of mine. right from when I started watching cricket on TV and started playing myself. Dreamt I would win the World Cup and I got the opportunity to lead my team,” Harmanpreet Kaur said. “Maybe my wishes were straight from the heart and that’s probably why God listened to each and every one of them. It’s like magic how everything is falling in place. And finally, today we are champions.”
