Woman praises ‘act of kindness’ from staff after ‘horrifying’ Huntingdon train attack

A woman has praised a “little act of kindness” from railway staff - a day after Huntingdon station reopened following the horrific mass stabbing on a train on Saturday evening (November 1). Huntingdon Railway Station reopened on Monday (November 3). The station had been closed since Saturday (November 1), after 10 people were injured in a mass stabbing. Since the attack, Anthony Williams, 32, of no fixed abode, has been charged with 11 counts of attempted murder, one count of actual bodily harm and two counts of possessing a bladed article in a public place. Julia Elliot, who lives in Cambridgeshire, was travelling to London on Tuesday (November 4) - a day after the station reopened - and had to stop at Huntingdon. While at the station, she and other passengers received a Ferrero Rocher from staff. She has praised this “little act of kindness” in the wake of the “horrifying” incident. She said: “I’m a 70-year-old woman and my premise is we should all show a little bit of kindness. “I head down to East Woolwich twice a month and help my family out with my grandchildren. It’s a journey I do regularly and I travel a lot on my own, including during the night. “What happened was terribly shocking. However, I didn’t change how I felt about travelling. “When I went to my platform [at Huntingdon], we were all offered us a Ferrero Rocher. It was a little act of kindness in the wake of such horror. “I thought this little act of kindness needed to be shared.” While at Huntingdon, Julia said the atmosphere was “no different”, but “people acknowledged people more”. She added: “There must have been about half a dozen people who didn’t eat the chocolate straight away, but just looked at it. I think people were reflecting. The staff at Huntingdon responded so emphatically to people.” Before Julia’s train arrived, she also spoke to a British Transport Police officer on her platform. She thanked him and his colleagues for their response on Saturday. She said: “I said to him that I wanted to thank him and his colleagues and emergency responded for the amazing job they carried out.”
