MICHAEL S.: 28 / software engineer His hobbies: Skiing, rock climbing, scuba diving What makes him a catch: He loves learning new things. 7 P.M. TORO, BOSTON Brooke I stopped at the farmers market, messaged my friend outfit options, and talked to my roommate before heading out. Michael I took a nap, showered, got dressed, and called my Uber. Brooke He was about 10 minutes late but apologized and said his Uber made a few wrong turns. Michael I’ll take the blame, but she seemed pretty cool about it. Brooke The first thing I noticed was his hair. The top was bleached, which was fun. Michael She was cute, but also young. Brooke We actually didn’t talk a lot about work, which was honestly refreshing. We talked about his different hobbies and places he has traveled. He has lots of niche interests. He makes drink infusions, which was super interesting! We both love Love Is Blind, but decided the application was too long to apply. Michael We talked about where we grew up and our family history. We talked about how she’s a therapist, and I work in software engineering. But also about movies, travel, and what we like to do in our free time. Love Is Blind may have also come up. Brooke We are both really into movies (though different kinds) so we gave each other some recommendations. He recently went to a film festival, which was cool to hear about. Michael We both are into film/movies. In fact, she is an actress, and I had done some minimal acting in the past. Brooke We decided to split a few things. The best was the shishito peppers. The sangria was also very good. Michael The food was incredible. She’s a vegetarian, so we both ate vegetarian for the night, but it really didn’t impact the quality of the food. Brooke I felt comfortable with him. He had some cool interests and I liked seeing his personality come out more as the night went on. He was a little older than me, but it didn’t seem noticeable by the end of the night. Michael I got more comfortable, and I think she did also. The conversation flowed well. There were hints romantic chemistry could develop, but nothing that was jumping off the page, so to speak. Brooke It was pretty late and we both had long commutes back. We decided to walk to the T together. I have a terrible sense of direction but I ended up doing a fine job getting us there. Michael There was a moment in the train where I looked into her eyes and saw how she had these incredible blue eyes that I just somehow must have missed in the dark restaurant. Brooke We parted ways when we got to the stop I needed. We said we had a good time and exchanged phone numbers. I made him promise not to write anything mean about me. Michael We gave each other a hug and swapped numbers on the train. Brooke Not sure! We exchanged numbers but haven’t made any plans. Michael I would be open to it. Sometimes a person takes time to open up. Brooke / B+ Michael / A-
