A TikTok video showcasing a woman’s new back garden has captivated viewers, racking up 165,000 views. The clip, shared by user @our_little_doer_upper_, reveals a charming garden in Shropshire, England—complete with a fenced allotment, greenhouse, shed and grassy area. But it isn’t the landscaping that’s turning heads—it’s what lies just beyond the fence. “The garden is a lot smaller than our old house,” reads the text over the video. “But I think it was worth the compromise.” As the woman walks to the back of her yard, the camera pans to reveal a serene river flowing directly behind her home, offering an idyllic and peaceful view that has quickly won over viewers. @our_little_doer_upper_ Go on, do your worst! #homeaccount #newhome #hometour #gardentour ♬ Man I Need – Olivia Dean TikTok users flooded the comments with admiration and advice. “Well, at least you’re not getting a load of new builds out the back,” joked one commenter, referencing Britain’s sprawling housing estates. Another suggested, “Make the fence glass so the garden looks bigger and you can sit and enjoy the view,” and the owner responded: “We’ve built a decking area over the river.” Some users were concerned about the flood risk, but the woman reassured: “We know the area very well, we are low flood risk, it would have to come up well over 13ft before it got to the garden, in which case the fields over the river will be flooded first. My family have been here for over 50 years, and this are[a] does not flood.” Others were equally smitten by the scenery: “I’d buy for that willow tree—it’s my dream,” one user wrote, while another reminisced, “For several years I lived in a house in Herefordshire with a brook and a small wood at the bottom of the garden. It looked and sounded great, but the mosquitoes were terrible.” A stock image of a woman posing in a botanical garden with water lilies. Properties boasting outdoor TVs, for example, sell for 3.1 percent above expected value—about $10,749 more on a typical home—the highest premium among 359 features analyzed across nearly a million 2023 home sales. Other sought-after amenities include outdoor showers, pizza ovens, and bluestone patios, highlighting that the pandemic-era appreciation for outdoor living remains strong. This generation favors quality over quantity, choosing native plants and unique accessories that tell a story. Many are also ditching chemical fertilizers and designing gardens that support biodiversity, attracting pollinators like bees, butterflies, and birds. From riverbank views in rural England to high-end outdoor setups in suburban America, one thing is clear—the modern homebuyer’s heart lies outdoors.
