Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Spokesperson M. G. Hegde on Wednesday (October 29) asked the Union government whether it would allow RSS activities on its land. Addressing the press, Mr. Hegde said that the Centre should clarify whether it will allow the RSS to use the premises of airports, railway stations, and other properties. He alleged that the RSS was never part of the freedom movement. “Its activists were busy attending shakhas and playing kabaddi when others were participating in the freedom struggle,” Mr. Hegde added. The Spokesperson, who was formerly associated with the Sangh Parivar, claimed that the RSS, in the name of Hindu Swayam Sangh, is a registered organisation in 70 countries including UK, Australia, and Canada. “When the RSS can follow the law of the land in foreign countries, why is it hesitating to get registered in India ?” he asked. Mr. Hegde said that when the British banned military drills and the use of uniforms in all non-official organisations, the RSS complied. “It surrendered its uniform to the British without revolting. The RSS could have questioned the British against banning its uniform on its own land,” he stated, adding that it is now hesitating to follow the Government Order (which had banned the use of government properties for private activities). Mr. Hegde further added that the RSS has created a narrative that if it is targeted and criticised by anybody, this amounts to targeting and criticising Hindus.
