Authorities in Delhi attempted a cloud seeding operation on Tuesday to combat the capital’s escalating air pollution but were unable to achieve success. Cloud seeding is a process that involves dispersing small particles—typically silver iodide—into clouds to stimulate rainfall. Though the technique is practiced globally, experts remain skeptical about its long-term effectiveness in controlling pollution. The Delhi government, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, conducted the trial across multiple city areas as heavy smog choked the skyline. However, the effort—the first of its kind in 53 years—was deemed “not entirely successful” due to insufficient atmospheric moisture, which prevented rain formation.
