Days after former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced her decision to retire from Congress, her daughter Christine Pelosi has confirmed that she will not run for her mother's seat, opting instead to seek a seat in the California State Senate. Christine Pelosi, 59, said on Monday that she would run for the San Francisco State Senate seat currently held by Democrat Scott Wiener. The next scheduled election for that seat is in 2028, but Wiener is running for Nancy Pelosi's congressional seat next year. Pelosi said she would seek the State Senate position either in a special election if Wiener wins his House race or when he is term-limited. "I like the thought of forging my own path," she said in an interview. "I don't think that there is a better representative or a better speaker in Washington DC, for San Francisco than Nancy Pelosi. And I wish everybody luck as they attempt to follow in those stilettos." Her decision was the first political ripple to follow Nancy Pelosi's announcement that she would not seek re-election after nearly four decades in Congress. Speculation had been growing that Christine Pelosi might continue the family legacy by running for her mother's seat in Washington.
