Two competitive teams in the Eastern Conference meet up in the Queen City on Tuesday night, as Charlotte FC and New York City FC lock horns in Game 1 of their first-round series in the 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs. This is the third season in a row that Charlotte has made it to the postseason. After finishing fifth last season, the young franchise registered 59 points, the most in the club’s first four years of existence. With a fourth-place finish in the East, Charlotte also clinched home-field advantage for the first time. MLS STREAMING OPTIONS Now, the team seeks to move on in the playoffs for the first time. Despite qualifying for the first round last season, Charlotte lost to Orlando City in a tough three-game first-round matchup. New York City might have had a chance to be the higher seed heading into this matchup. However, the team dropped three of its final four games of the regular season, leading to a fifth-place finish. Yet, it was enough to get NYCFC to the postseason. Like last year, New York is the lower seed, but that did not stop them from beating Cincinnati in the first round. These two teams just met in the Bronx last month, with the NYCFC coming away with a 2-0 win.
