A neurologist reportedly found that Wendy Williams does not have the brain disorder that has been cited as one of the reasons she has remained under a guardianship for years. Citing sources with direct knowledge of the situation, TMZ reported on November 11 that Williams recently completed a “battery of tests” in New York City that led an unnamed “top neurologist” to conclude that Williams does not have frontotemporal dementia. Williams was placed under a guardianship in 2022 after her bank declared that she was at risk of being financially exploited. Representatives for Williams announced last year that she had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2023, although the former Wendy Williams Show host has publicly shared her belief that she was misdiagnosed. This March, Williams claimed to have taken mental-competency tests at a hospital and passed “with flying colors.” But in August, People reported that Williams’s diagnosis was upheld after she underwent brain imaging and a “significant” number of medical and neuropsychological tests. So what is the truth? We might have to wait for this to play out in court. According to TMZ, Williams’s legal team received the neurologist’s recent results late last month. The team reportedly plans to file court documents within the next two weeks in an apparent bid to set a hearing where a judge could terminate Williams’s guardianship. Attorney Joe Tacopina has indicated a willingness to take further legal action if that doesn’t happen. Although The Cut reported last month that Tacopina is not officially recognized by the court as Williams’s lawyer, he told Entertainment Tonight on November 11 that he will “seek a jury trial asking jurors to free Wendy” if the judge does not end Williams’s guardianship.
