What is the 6-7 trend? Viral craze explained amid classroom confusion across UK

The viral 6-7 trend has been banned in classrooms across the nation, leaving parents both exasperated and confused about its meaning. Parents are frantically turning to online forums like Mumsnet to ask if other people's teenagers are using it, questioning whether it's something they "shouldn't be saying". "Are your teen boys spouting this 6-7 nonsense? I work in a secondary school and it's driving me bonkers!" one woman vented. Another replied: "Aaaaargh, yes, I feel your pain. We banned it at the dinner table. Inspired by them telling us their teachers had banned it at school". Some admitted that they had "genuinely no idea" what it was. One parent responded: "It's not just a boy thing. I asked my daughter what it actually means. She says no one knows, and that's what makes it oh so hilarious". Another mum penned: "It's on my kids' primary, they're seven and ten. They both think it's very funny and say it in a kind of silly way, they all pronounce it the same! It doesn't mean anything." So, it seems that children and teens are going wild over...nothing?, reports the Mirror . But there appears to be an explanation for the madness. Explanation behind the 6-7 trend. Marie Achkar shed light on the viral trend, stating that she was going to provide a "quick breakdown of what it means and how it started". "One, two, three, four, five...six-seven," Marie began her video, explaining that if you've been noticing this viral trend on social media or hearing it from your kids, "you're not alone". She revealed that currently, there are over two million posts on TikTok under the 6-7 hashtag. Marie explained: "It all started in December of 2024, when hip hop artist Skrilla released a song called 'doot doot'. And one of the lyrics includes the phrase 6-7. "The trend really gained momentum earlier this year when creators started pairing that song with edits of Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball, who is, fittingly, six foot seven. "Now the phrase is taking over schools and social media feeds everywhere, and right now, there's even a viral video of order number 67 being called at an In-N-Out in California, and the crowd goes wild". Marie then showcased the viral clip, and indeed, when the server announces 6-7, everyone leaps up and down as though their favourite football team had just scored a goal. "So, if you're puzzled about what it actually signifies, the answer is nothing. Yep, that's right, it's essentially meaningless. It's part of the joke and why everyone is basically jumping on the trend," she concluded the video. So, there you have it. The next time you hear someone utter 6-7, you can rest assured that it actually means nothing, and it's just a silly little (or not so little) trend....
