The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has released the results of the new recruitment exams held on September 14 to address vacancies from the widely reported teacher recruitment scam. The WBSSC announced the results of the recent SLST exam, conducted to fill positions after the Supreme Court cancelled 25,753 school jobs. The written exam, held on September 14, 2025, aimed to recruit higher secondary teachers and will fill 12,514 vacancies. The commission will call 160 candidates for interviews for every 100 vacancies. Candidates can now check the WBSSC SLST 2025 results on the official website, westbengalssc.com. The results, published in PDF format, contains the roll numbers of candidates who cleared the written exam and are eligible for the interview round. The final merit list will be released based on the candidates’ performance in both the written exam and interview. Selected candidates will then undergo document verification before receiving final appointment letters. Both the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court deemed the entire 2016 recruitment process corrupt and illegal, leading to the cancellation of 25,753 teaching and non-teaching positions. The involvement of several prominent politicians and the former education minister in the scam has raised serious concerns about the state’s education system. Following the court’s strict directives, the commission was instructed to publish separate lists of tainted and innocent candidates. The Supreme Court also ordered the cancellation of the entire 2016 panel and mandated the completion of the new recruitment process by December 31, 2025. This has brought hope to thousands of deserving and disadvantaged candidates who have been waiting for justice and appointments for a long time. The teacher recruitment scam had sparked a major political controversy in West Bengal. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have been tasked with investigating the entire scam. Several senior political leaders and education officials have been arrested in connection with the case. The CBI named the former Education Minister as the mastermind behind the scam. The Kolkata High Court ordered the repayment of salaries, along with interest, to teachers who were illegally appointed. However, the Supreme Court later provided some relief by ruling that employees in cancelled jobs do not have to refund any salaries or benefits already received.
