One of the things Oregon head coach Dan Lanning mentioned when talking about the mass firings at Power 4 college football programs in October was that the sudden changes had impacts on the families of coaches. Washington Huskies head coach Jedd Fisch has been connected to job openings at Florida and UCLA this year. As an alumnus of Florida, Fisch has strong ties to the SEC program. Following his graduation, he worked as a graduate assistant for the Gators under then-head coach Steve Spurrier in 1999 and 2000. Per Grant Hughes of 247 Sports, Fisch “could” have an interest in becoming the next head coach of the Bruins. Fisch appears to be looking for an exit plan from Washington because his family doesn’t enjoy The Emerald City. Fisch’s wife moved back to Arizona. “We’ve heard that Fisch could be interested if approached,” reported Bruin Report Online. “We’ve heard his family does not like Seattle, and that his wife, in fact, moved back to Arizona.” UCLA considered poaching Fisch away from Washington in February of 2024, and the head coach “didn’t completely brush it off.” Fisch remained with the Huskies. He’s gone 12-9 overall with the program and 7-7 in Big Ten play. Whatever circumstances led Fisch to remain at Washington in 2024 might have changed with recent developments in his family life. It’ll be interesting to see if more smoke surrounds Fisch and UCLA in the coming weeks. While Fisch would have an interest in Florida, the Gators don’t appear to be in a rush to hire anybody besides Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin. With the Rebels in the hunt for the College Football Playoff, any developments between Kiffin and the Gators could take some time to be sorted out. For more on the NCAA, head to Newsweek Sports.
