Steve Kerr is in his 12th year as the Golden State Warriors head coach; his contract expires this season. GM Mike Dunleavy says, “Steve can stay as long as he wants,” showing team confidence. No extension yet, but both sides appear optimistic about reaching a deal. Steve Kerr is currently in his 12th year as the head coach of the Golden State Warriors. However, unless he reaches an extension with the team, this could very well be his last. Kerr, 60, is currently in the final year of his contract with the Warriors. While there have been no indications that the two parties intend to part ways, the fact that Kerr still has no extension in place puts his future with the organization in jeopardy. Kerr’s last contract extension was in 2024, when the five-time NBA champion point guard signed a two-year, $35 million deal. The Warriors have started the new NBA season with a 4-1 record. On Tuesday, they blew out the Los Angeles Clippers, 98-79, marking their second win in two nights. Before the game, Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy was asked to share his thoughts on Kerr’s current contract situation. At this point, the front office remains confident that Kerr will remain with the team beyond this season. “Look, the reality is, Steve can stay as long as he wants,” Dunleavy said on “Warriors Pregame Live,” via NBC Sports Bay Area. “He’s got great self-awareness. He knows where he’s at. And I think [Warriors owner] Joe [Lacob] said this, too … if he’s going to coach here, we want to make sure that he fully wants to be here, is fully committed and all that. And I think Steve’s taking the time right now, he’s taking the season. We’re respectful of that. “I’m confident that he’ll be back and we’ll get something done. But this is not like a normal situation with a coach in the last year of his deal. This is Steve Kerr. This is unique, and we’re comfortable with where we’re at with him. We feel like we’ll get something done.” Kerr has already won four championships with the Warriors. His first came during the 2014-15 season, his first year with the team.
