Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, inaugurated a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Artificial Intelligence-based Skilling and Assessment, along with digital classrooms and a digital library at its regional centre in Kalaburagi on October 30. The new facilities have been fully funded by the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB). The inauguration of these KKRDB-funded facilities marks a major milestone in VTU’s efforts to advance digital learning, promote skill-based education, and strengthen research in emerging technologies across the Kalyana Karnataka region. The centre was inaugurated by VTU Vice-Chancellor S. Vidyashankar through video conferencing. He underlined the importance of continuous learning and skill enhancement for professional success. “Marks do not define your future, but your skills and abilities do. Success demands effort, curiosity, and a drive to learn every day,” Mr. Vidyashankar said. He reiterated VTU’s commitment to making every graduate employable and industry-ready while expressing gratitude to KKRDB for supporting initiatives that strengthen AI-based education and research in the region. Sanjeev Kubakaddi, former executive council member of VTU and founder of SKMED Innovations Private Limited, who was the chief guest, said the new Centre of Excellence would transform the education landscape by integrating Artificial Intelligence into skill development. “AI-driven systems will help students identify and nurture analytical reasoning, problem-solving, and logical thinking. AI-enabled mock interviews will enhance confidence, communication, and employability,” he said. VTU Regional Director Shubhangi D.C. said the new facilities would benefit students and faculty across all disciplines by facilitating interdisciplinary learning, research collaboration, and innovation. “The Centre of Excellence is not confined to computer science. It is open to all students and faculty members as well,” she added. Programme coordinators Mohammed Abdul Waheed, Satish Uplaonkar, Brijbhushan S., and Ambadas, along with faculty members and students, attended the programme.
