Vikings Get Unfortunate Update On Jonathan Greenard

The Minnesota Vikings were dealt a devastating blow during their contest with the Baltimore Ravens at U.S. Bank Stadium. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Vikings’ star edge rusher Jonathan Greenard was announced out for the rest of the game on Sunday. Greenard suffered a shoulder injury attempting to bring down Ravens QB Lamar Jackson on the run near the sideline. The injury occurred during the third quarter. Losing Greenard is a massive blow to a Minnesota defense that relies heavily upon its pass rush to get opposing offenses off the field. Vikings Lose Jonathan Greenard To Shoulder Injury Jonathan Greenard is one half of the elite edge rushing duo between himself and Andrew Van Ginkel. Greenard was pronounced out around a half hour after he suffered the injury, meaning Dallas Turner would get more run across from Van Ginkel. It is currently unclear how much time (if any) that the edge rusher will miss. Any amount of time that Greenard could miss would be a devastating loss for the Vikings. Greenard has been a workhorse for the team so far in 2025. Per Pro Football Focus, Jonathan Greenard played 435 snaps going into Week 10 against Baltimore. That is good for the 7th highest mark in the league among all other edge rushers. His 33 pressures through the first nine weeks is 15th in the NFL. His 75.4 overall grade is 28th. Dallas Turner Could Be In For Increased Snap Count The NFL embraces a next-man up mentality, and the Vikings won’t go against the grain on this one. 2024 first-round draft selection will see an increased workload with the injury to Jonathan Greenard. Turner’s production thus far hasn’t jumped off of the stat sheet. However, per Tyler Forness of AtoZ Sports, hope in Dallas Turner is warranted: “It’s not as simple as looking at just one pass rush rep or seeing that the sack numbers are low. Turner does a lot of really important things for the defense, including dropping into coverage regularly.“ Forness included a detailed explanation using a clip from Turner going against the 49ers in his rookie season: “The line about setting the edges and trying to contain Hurts is a big reason for the clip above. He’s arguably playing against the best right tackle to ever play football in Lane Johnson. The big thing with Turner is that his role won’t get much love. He does so many little things that don’t get appreciated because they don’t show up on the stat sheet. This play from his rookie season last year is exactly what he brings to the table.” Tyler Forness of AtoZ Sports on the versatility of Dallas Turner The Vikings would obviously prefer to have Jonathan Greenard on the field rather than not. Fingers are crossed that this is not a long-term injury for the edge rusher, as his absence would likely be notable from the Minnesotan defense.
