Vande Bharat sleeper train has successfully achieved a top speed of 180 km per hour on the Sawai-Madhopur-Kota-Nagda section during its trial run. The high-speed trial was conducted by the West Central Railway division. Developed by BEML (Bharat Earth Movers Limited) using ICF (Integral Coach Factory) technology, the train is designed for long-distance routes and promises greater comfort with sleeper berths instead of regular seats. The high-speed trial was conducted by the Test Directorate team of the Research Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO). “The successful test marks a significant milestone under the Indian Railways’ ‘Mission Gati Shakti’, aimed at enhancing both speed and efficiency across the country’s rail network,” said the West Central Railway. In a Reddit post, the Indian Railways put up a video showing a glimpse of the run. Another said, “Pehlay implement kariye, trial se kya hoga.” Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Launch Date The Vande Bharat Sleeper train was originally scheduled to launch in October but faced delays due to various challenges, including design and safety issues. The Railway Board said, “There are issues related to furnishing and workmanship at many places in respect of sharp edges and comers at berthing area, window curtain handles, pigeon pockets between berth connectors inviting cleaning issues.” The Vande Bharat Sleeper train went through a test called a Long Confirmatory Run (LCR) in which the train successfully ran 50 km between Rohalkhurd and Laban stations at a top speed. Safety tests, including checks for stability and emergency braking on wet tracks were also conducted. Key Features of Vande Bharat Sleeper Train The train comprises 16 coaches and out of these, 11 coaches are AC three-tier, four are AC two-tier and one coach is AC first class. In total, the train has 823 sleeping berths, including 611 in three-tier coaches, 188 in two-tier coaches, and 24 in first-class. The First AC coach is built for premium comfort as it has showers with hot water, modern interiors, and luxury features to make long, overnight journeys more comfortable for passengers. The trains will be equipped with cutting-edge safety features. According to the Ministry, the trains must be equipped with Kavach 4.0, have fire safety features, and have a reliable communication system between loco pilots, train managers, and nearby station masters. All brake systems need to be properly maintained. The coaches also come with integrated reading lights and USB charging ports for each passenger. It also has display panels and CCTV cameras installed with modular pantries for convenient onboard meal preparation. There are special berths and toilets designed for differently-abled passengers and features automatic exterior passenger doors and sensor-based inter-communication doors.
