Uzbekistan to tackle air pollution and climate change with new measures - Daryo.uz

The Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change has developed a draft resolution aimed at preventing air pollution in Tashkent city and Tashkent region, the ministry reported. The draft resolution on additional measures to curb air pollution and address the impacts of climate change in Tashkent city and region has been submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers for approval. It targets one of the region’s most pressing environmental issues, high pollutant emissions from industrial enterprises and greenhouse farms. The project outlines a comprehensive system of measures to reduce the negative impact on the atmosphere and promote the gradual transition of enterprises to environmentally friendly technologies. Key measures include: Installing dust and gas purification equipment at industrial enterprises and greenhouses.Replacing outdated boilers in greenhouses with modern, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly systems.Transitioning greenhouses and industrial facilities to alternative energy sources other than coal.Providing financial incentives, including grants, to support modernization, installation of waste treatment systems, local treatment facilities, and automatic air monitoring stations. The Ministry of Ecology emphasized that these measures are expected to significantly reduce pollutant emissions, improve environmental safety, and create more comfortable living conditions for residents. Strengthening environmental requirements is also a core component of Uzbekistan’s broader strategy for climate sustainability and a shift toward a “green” economy. During the first eight months of 2025, the ministry identified 281 violations related to atmospheric air pollution in Tashkent city and region, highlighting the urgency of the initiative.
