The US has said it killed 14 people in four separate strikes in the Pacific Ocean. It’s the largest number of strikes and deaths in a single day. One man survived. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said those killed were “narco terrorists”. Donald Trump remains in Japan where he has met new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi who, it’s been claimed, has said she will nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize. The US president said Ms Takaichi was “going to go down as one of the great Prime Ministers”. High prise for someone who has been in the job for seven days. Mr Trump told a business dinner in Japan that his Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent “soothes the markets” because he “disturbs the markets”. A Republican dominated committee on Capitol Hill has said that some of former President Joe Biden’s executive orders and pardons done via the autopen should be examined as he may not have been aware of what he was signing. But the report, criticised by Democrats, has failed to establish any decisions it can point to that show direct evidence of Mr Biden not being aware of what he was doing. Mr Biden has said Republicans questioning his faculties as president are “liars”.
