Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Dakshina Kannada district in charge Dinesh Gundu Rao on Saturday, November 1, said India is a vast country known for its rich diversity where every region has its own distinct culture, tradition, and way of life. Respecting all religions, beliefs and customs is vital for the nation’s unity and strength. He was speaking after inaugurating the North Eastern People’s Association Mangalore (NEPAM) Freshers’ Meet 2025 and the 70th Karnataka Rajyotsava Celebration jointly organised by NEPAM and Alva’s Education Foundation at Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology Auditorium, Mijar, Moodbidri. Mr. Rao said the beauty of India lies in its diversity. “When we understand, respect and embrace our differences while finding unity in shared values, we can build a stronger India. The people from the North East, who have made Karnataka their second home through education, work and social contribution, embody this spirit of harmony and integration,“ he said. Congress leader Mithun Rai said, “The seven sister States of North East India are the pride of our nation. The brave people from these regions serve at our borders in the armed and paramilitary forces. North Eastern brothers and sisters residing here consider Karnataka as their second home.“ The guests offered floral tributes to the portrait of Goddess Bhuvaneshwari. They were escorted to the stage by a North Eastern cultural troupe even as North Eastern students of Alva’s rendered the Nada Geethe, which was widely appreciated. The students performed a captivating Dollu Kunita on the occasion exhibiting their enthusiasm for Karnataka’s culture. Foundation Managing Trustee Vivek Alva said, “Karnataka is a land of peace and coexistence, where all communities live harmoniously. While history textbooks often highlight rulers like Shivaji Maharaj and Tipu Sultan, little is taught about the rich heritage of Manipur and other North Eastern States.“ He further said, “At Alva’s, we believe in creating opportunities to learn about each other’s cultures.“ NEPAM president Yanaolunghar Thotchuiyo, Alva’s Homeopathy college principal Roshan Pinto, NEPAM advisor Kaini Cecilia and others were present.
