BEACHWOOD, Ohio -- Child endangering: Cedar Road At 11 a.m. Oct. 28, a member of the cleaning staff at The Vantage apartments, 27030 Cedar Road, informed police that she had seen an unaccompanied young child wandering throughout the building. An apartment employee brought the child, whose age was redacted from the police report, to the leasing office. There, an officer found that the child was wearing a necklace that had engraved on it his name and date of birth. The child wore a full, leaking diaper. He told police that his uncle was supposed to be watching him, but he did not know what room his uncle occupied. The employee sent out texts and emails informing those in the apartment that a lost child had been found. At the same time, the uncle called police about the missing boy. He was told to go to the leasing office. The uncle was accomapnied by his own daughter and the boy’s father. He told police that he was asleep in his room and didn’t know the child left the room. A doorbell video showed the cleaning woman who found the child had knocked on his room’s door at 11:42 a.m. The uncle said he did not hear the knock. He called the boy’s mother when he discovered him missing, and the mother advised him to call police. The boy’s father explained that the uncle had been watching his son since the night before because he was at work. He said the boy had learned how to operate a door lock while staying a few weeks prior in a hotel room. Police arrested the uncle, 24, an apartment resident, on a charge of child endangering. The boy’s father took custidy of his son. The uncle’s daughter was picked up by her mother. Theft: Chagrin Boulevard At 10 a.m. Oct. 29, police were dispatched to Giant Eagle, 24601 Chagrin Blvd., on a report that a female shoplifter had just left the store and entered the nearby business Signature Health, 24200 Chagrin Blvd. An officer went inside Signature Health and saw a woman who wore clothing described by Giant Eagle management. The seated woman was asked if she had paid for the bagged Giant Eagle merchandise that sat next to her. She replied, “No,” and was arrested for theft. Giant Eagle management told police that the 46-year-old Cleveland woman put merchandise into a reusable bag, walked through an unattended checkout lane, and then went to the exit. At the exit, she was asked for a receipt, but kept on walking into the parking lot, and then to Signature Health. The stolen items totaled $115.36. Disturbance: Cedar Road At 7:50 p.m. Nov. 1, officers responded to the swimming pool of The Vantage apartments, 27040 Cedar Road, on a report of a disturbance. At the pool, a woman told officers that she had been told by someone claiming to be apartment management that she needed to get out of the pool. The woman doubted that the other woman was apartment management and said she would call police rather than leave the pool area. The other woman is the apartment’s assistant manager. She said that she, too, would call police. The assistant manager did not call police, however, and officers left the scene. Police were called back at 8:10 p.m., this time by the assistant manager, who told police that a child had urinated in the pool and that she told the woman and those with her that they had to vacate the pool. Police also spoke once again with the 32-year-old Beachwood woman who was swimming. She became angry and yelled at officers. She again questioned whether the assistant manager had the authority to tell her and her group to leave the pool. The swimmers would not leave after officers told them to do so. Officers eventually cleared the pool of people and locked the door to the swimming area. The angry woman was told that if she had an issue with being told to leave the pool, she should take it up with the apartment’s corporate management. Warrant arrest: I-271 At 10:50 p.m. Nov. 2, an officer followed a car on southbound I-271 that had activated for a lengthy period of time its turn signal. The car, however, had not changed lanes. The officer checked the car’s registration and learned that its female owner was wanted on a Strongsville police warrant. A traffic stop was conducted and it was found that the driver was a male, and not the registered owner. When asked for his license, the man replied that he did not have one, and that he was wanted on traffic warrants. The officer learned that he was wanted on traffic warrants issued by police in University Heights, Seven Hills and Parma, as well as the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The 26-year-old Euclid man told police he thought he was wanted on only two warrants. In the car with him was the man’s son and dog. He called his mother to come and get the child and dog and to drive his car home as he was arrested on the OSHP warrant. Beachwood police charged him with driving without a license and turned him over to an OSHP trooper. Warrant arrest: Cedar Road At 12:35 p.m. Oct. 29, an officer stopped for an illegal window tint a 2024 Jeep Compass that had just turned from Richmond Road northbound onto westbound Cedar Road. The tint was on the windshield and driver’s door window. A tint meter showed that the driver’s door window was illegal. The female driver was found to be wanted on a Shaker Heights Municipal Court warrant and was arrested. Police cited the 23-year-old Oakwood woman for the illegal window tint and had the Jeep towed. She paid a $520 waiver and was issued a new court date before being released.
