Ukraine’s MacPaw Announces Moonlock Cyber Security Software Designed For Mac Users

The new Moonlock cyber security software from Ukraine's MacPaw is designed to keep Mac users safe from hackers and malware. At last, some more positive news coming out of Ukraine in the form of a new software package that’s been developed by Kyiv-based MacPaw. Today, the company announced the launch of Moonlock, a brand-new, human-centric cybersecurity app designed exclusively for the protection of macOS systems. MacPaw is probably best known for its CleanMyMac utility software for keeping macOS neat and tidy. Now the software developer has announced the official launch of Moonlock, its new cybersecurity application exclusively for macOS users. The app is tailored for everyday users who may feel just a little overwhelmed by the challenges and complexity of digital security. While Mac’s seem to be infinitely less affected by malware and viruses compared with Windows systems, hackers are increasingly testing for any vulnerabilities in macOS. The Explorer Screen of Moonlock is the starting point for getting a more secure Mac. Turning Anxiety Into Confidence “Cybersecurity shouldn’t feel like a maze of fear and complexity,” says Oleksandr Kosovan, MacPaw’s CEO and founder. “With Moonlock, we want to turn the anxiety into confidence — giving people powerful protection that feels simple, human, and reassuring.” MORE FOR YOU The launch of Moonlock addresses a growing need for Mac security as the platform increases in popularity, making it more of a target for hackers and other malicious actors. Apparently, according to the latest Moonlock survey, some 66% of Mac users faced a cyber threat within the last year, while Mac malware detections rose by 20% in 2024 compared to figures for 2023. Real-Time Protection Moonlock provides real-time protection and runs continuously in the background, scanning data coming into the Mac. It can block potential threats even when the app isn’t running because the software installs a low-level extension to keep watch at all time. For carrying out more in-depth checks, the product’s malware scanner lets users perform scheduled system scans with varying levels of intensity. MacPaw's Moonlock also includes a VPN which is another important tool for staying safe online. The Moonlock application also has other features designed for boosting the overall digital safety of a Mac. These extras include a VPN tool for securing safe internet connections over public networks. There is also a Network Inspector that lets users block your Mac from sending data to specific countries that may pose a threat to you. I’m guessing MacPaw is looking in Moscow’s direction on this one, but there are plenty of other rogue states that could be a threat or danger in this increasingly unstable world. Moonlock also includes a System Protection tool that walks users through the important job of tightening up the native security settings that every Mac comes with. There’s also a Security Advisor that offers users actionable advice on how they can build safer online habits. All these functions come with in-app explanations that enable users to feel more secure online. While Macs do seem inherently safer than some other operating systems, none of us can be complacent about cybersecurity, especially now that ransomware is on the rise and there is an increase in the amount of malware floating around the internet. Wherever you think the threat is coming from, Moonlock lets you block traffic from individual countries (Russia in this example) where someone might be trying to harm you and your Mac. Pricing and Availability: MacPaw’s Moonlock is available to buy from MacPaw’s website with several pricing options, including an annual subscription priced at $54 for one Mac. For any skeptics out there who are not convinced, MacPaw has a 7-day free trial of Moonlock. The app is also included as part of MacPaw’s Setapp subscription, a suite of useful utility apps that are handy for almost anyone who owns a Mac. Editorial StandardsReprints & Permissions
