The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is calling on the public to take five key steps now that temperatures have dropped and various illnesses are circulating. Influenza (flu), Covid, common colds and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) typically become more widespread during the autumn and winter months. While symptoms may be similar, some conditions can prove far more serious than others. In a fresh post on X, previously known as Twitter, on Tuesday the UKHSA wrote: "Feeling under the weather? Help stop infections from spreading with this checklist for you and your family." The public is being encouraged to follow five measures to help prevent infections from spreading over the forthcoming weeks and months. These include washing hands frequently, covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue, remaining at home when feeling poorly, opening windows during indoor gatherings, and considering mask-wearing when going out. According to the latest government figures, Covid cases have increased marginally in the week ending October 8, showing a rise of 1.9%. Covid fatalities climbed by nearly 15% week-on-week, rising from 87 to 100, in the week ending October 3. Meanwhile, in the week ending September 30, the most current data available, the number of patients admitted to healthcare facilities with Covid increased from 1,894 to 2,077, representing a rise of 9.7%.
