UK households have been told to turn off their lights on Friday - as a major event sweeps England. Switching off ALL outdoor lights can let Halloween trick or treaters know you don't wish for them to knock. Waseem Malik, Aviva Chief Claims Officer, said: “Halloween provides something of a perfect storm for would-be troublemakers – which could mean an increase in certain types of claim. “As well as the trick-or-treat antics of October 31st, the clocks go back on the last Saturday of the month. "Small touches like adding personalised details with handmade decorations or curating a specific theme, can really make an impact. "But there are also some more important considerations too, like securing decorations properly to prevent them from falling in the wind and causing harm. "So even though you might ordinarily leave your outside lights on to guide you to the door after a late night out, it’s best to leave it off on October 31, or your doorbell will get a workout with unwanted visitors all night.
