UFC Has Strong Interest in Former WWE Star

Speculation continues to grow regarding Gable Steveson’s potential move to the UFC. The former WWE Superstar recently shared that he has been training in MMA with UFC icon Jon Jones. UFC President Dana White is paying close attention to the Olympic Gold Medalist’s transition into combat sports. Appearing on “The Jim Rome Show,” White discussed Steveson, who many believe will eventually sign with the UFC. White confirmed that he and his company are monitoring the former WWE star’s progress. “When somebody that’s a physical freak, an incredible athlete, and a guy who has competed at the highest level, and then they start transitioning, in a combat sport like this, it is very interesting.” “We are definitely keeping our eye on him, and we’ll see how this plays out.” Rome also asked White about Steveson’s partnership with Jon Jones. The UFC President viewed this development as a significant positive for the Olympian’s future. “It is a great thing, actually. If you can get in and if you look at anybody in the history of boxing and the UFC, if you train with the best every day, those are usually the guys who become world champions.” Steveson has already backed up his athletic pedigree with results. He made his successful MMA debut in September, dominating in the Octagon to score a first-round win. Dana White on Gable Steveson: Now you got a guy like this, with his wrestling background, who's actually working his way up, you know, in the smaller leagues. Getting some experience and then, you know, he'll eventually end up here and we'll find out what he's capable of doing. pic.twitter.com/5fTzLKvaSC— Jed I. These victories have established his talents as a legitimate fighter outside of the amateur wrestling world. Steveson signed with WWE in 2021 with significant fanfare due to his Olympic success. His career with the company, however, did not pan out as many had expected. Steveson’s WWE tenure, which ended in 2024, included only one televised match. That match took place at the “NXT Great American Bash” in 2023. While Steveson continues to train for his next move in combat sports, Dana White and the UFC are preparing for their next major event. “UFC 310” is scheduled for this Saturday, November 9, 2025, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The event is headlined by a UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout between Alex Pereira and Khalil Rountree Jr., and it will be the promotion’s second event in the kingdom in 2025.
