District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar on Saturday inaugurated a two-day exhibition on environmental protection and solid waste management at the Race Course walking track in Coimbatore city. The exhibition is organised by Coimbatore Corporation in collaboration with various voluntary organisations to promote public awareness on environmental conservation and sustainable urban practices. The inauguration was attended by Member of Parliament Ganapathi P. Rajkumar, Mayor Rangnayaki Ramachandran, Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran, and other senior officials. As part of the programme, private companies displayed a wide array of resources and tools aimed at encouraging households to establish terrace gardens and utilise vacant spaces for planting. Exhibits included gardening equipment, fertilizers, seeds, ornamental plants, flowering shrubs, and other greenery-related materials, designed to inspire citizens to actively contribute to creating green urban spaces. The exhibition also presented practical solutions for solid waste management under the theme “Empowering Communities for Cleaner Cities.” The showcase featured organic waste converters, plastic recycling technologies, alternatives to plastic, and machinery for producing eco-friendly products. Demonstrations highlighted how waste materials can be efficiently processed, recycled, and repurposed, emphasising sustainable practices for households and communities alike. The District Collector urged the public and interested stakeholders to visit the exhibition, explore the exhibits, and support initiatives for environmental protection and urban cleanliness.
