Trump doubled down on his claims on Zohran Mamdani when he was compared with him. The President's remarks came as New York City mayoral election is around the corner. Trump appeared on “60 Minutes” interview Sunday – his first with CBS News since suing the network’s parent company. During the intense interview, interviewer Norah O’Donnell asked Trump about Mamdani’s NYC mayoral candidature and his identity which he self-declared as a socialist. Norah asked, “Some people have compared him to a left-wing version of you: charismatic, breaking the old rules.” Responding to the question, Trump said, “Well, I think I’m a much better looking person.”O’Donnell then asked Trump what he would do if Mamdani, whom he called a communist, became mayor. "It’s gonna be hard for me as the president to give a lot of money to New York," Trump said. "Because if you have a communist running New York, all you’re doing is wasting the money you’re sending there. Democratic candidate Mamdani has based his campaign on ideas like free bus rides and freezing the rising rent. He added that he nevertheless intended to meet with Mamdani if he won the election. "Yeah, I’ll speak to him," Trump said. "I think I have an obligation to speak to him." Mamdani currently leads his closest opponent, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, by at least ten points, as per Fox News. The early voting has been ongoing in New York City with the final day of voting scheduled on Tuesday.
