Trump Fires Back At CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell Suggesting He’s Seeking Political Retribution Against Opponents

President Donald Trump shot back at CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell on Sunday as she suggested that he is seeking “political retribution” against his opponents through political indictments. Trump denied O’Donnell’s question on whether he is seeking revenge against former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director James Comey, New York Attorney General Letitia James and former national security adviser John Bolton, who are all under indictment. The president assured that the DOJ is prosecuting them because they are “crooked” and “dirty.” “You know what? You know who got indicted? The man you’re looking at. I got indicted and I was innocent,” Trump said. “And here I am because I was able to beat all of the nonsense that was thrown at me. And yet when you go after a dirty cop like Comey or a guy like Bolton, who I hear has, I don’t know anything about it. I hear he took records all over the place. Who knows? Letitia James is a terrible, dishonest person, in my opinion.” Trump also stated that he never instructed the DOJ to prosecute these three individuals. They were so corrupt that the honest people we have, Pam Bondi is doing a very good job. Kash Patel is doing a very good job. The honest people that we have go after him automatically,” Trump continued. Trump wrote in a Sept. 20 Truth Social post that Attorney General Pam Bondi cannot “delay” prosecuting Comey, James or Democratic California Sen. Adam Schiff. A grand jury indicted Comey on Sept. 25 for allegedly making a false statement to Congress and for allegedly obstructing a congressional investigation. He is specifically accused of lying about whether he authorized an associate to serve as an anonymous source to the media regarding the Steele dossier and an investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s emails during a September 2020 hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz later said that former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe claimed that he had received approval from Comey to leak information to The Wall Street Journal about the FBI’s probe into the now-debunked claims that Russian agents colluded with Trump’s 2016 campaign. Bolton is charged with 18 counts related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents. He is alleged to have “shared more than a thousand pages of information” about his daily activities as national security adviser. James is facing two counts on allegations of bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution. The indictment relates to a $109,600 loan James secured on Aug 17, 2020, for a three bedroom home in Norfolk, Virginia, which required James “to occupy and use the property as her secondary residence” and prohibited “its use as a timesharing or other shared ownership arrangement.” The New York attorney general is facing another federal criminal probe regarding her alleged “selective enforcement” in cases she brought against Trump’s business and the National Rifle Association (NRA). James, who vowed to prosecute Trump during her campaign, filed a civil suit against Trump and the Trump Organization in September 2022, alleging that Trump overinflated his net worth by billions of dollars in exchange for receiving more favorable loans. Judge Arthur Engoron ordered Trump to pay $355 million, including interest, in a February 2024 ruling, though an appeals court later tossed the decision in August 2025.
