People Are Furious After Trump Seemingly Posted About Defying A Court Order On SNAP Benefits "Trump's message to 42 million Americans: eat dirt." Hot Topic 🔥 Full coverage and conversation on Politics On Tuesday, Nov. 4, aka Election Day across the US, Donald Trump took to his favorite platform, Truth Social, to exclaim that SNAP benefits "will be given only when the Radical Left Democrats open up government, which they can easily do, and not before!" This statement quickly sparked shock and confusion, as court orders recently directed the US Department of Agriculture, which administers SNAP, to continue paying full or partial benefits for November after 42 million Americans were set to lose them due to the government shutdown. Just a day earlier, on Monday, the USDA said it'd abide by court orders and pay partial benefits by tapping a contingency fund. But Trump's Truth Social post appeared to suggest that he'd defy the courts. And needless to say, people were a *little* taken aback. Sen. Elizabeth Warren wrote: "After a judge ordered Donald Trump to make SNAP payments, the wannabe king declared he will defy a court order and won't help people afford groceries. Trump's message to 42 million Americans: eat dirt." BuzzFeed TrendingHot Topic Let's chat about all things Politics See our Politics Discussions "If you are willing to defy court orders to starve 42 million Americans, you have lost your humanity," wrote Sen. Tammy Duckworth. "Trump needs to follow the law and fully fund SNAP benefits." "The cruelty is the point," wrote @TheDemocrats. "We really, really shouldn't tolerate the President illegally refusing to feed people like this," another said. By Tuesday afternoon, it seemed that no one knew what was going on, with the administration saying one thing while the president himself said another. Later, when asked by a reporter whether Trump's post amounted to defying a court order, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt contradicted his statement, clarifying that Trump was referring to future SNAP payments. Twitter: @factpostnews "The administration is fully complying with the court order. I just spoke to the president about it," Leavitt told reporters at the White House, while blaming Democrats for the government shutdown. "We are digging into a contingency fund that is supposed to be for emergencies, catastrophes, for war, and the president does not want to have to tap into this fund in the future, and that’s what he was referring to in his Truth Social post." Well...OK! That's certainly not what he wrote. To recall, here's the post again: "SNAP BENEFITS...will be given only when the Radical Left Democrats open up government, which they can easily do, and not before!" Anyway, the back-and-forth left many of the roughly one in eight low-income Americans who depend on SNAP feeling even more anxious and confused, as the president's remarks once again raised fears that millions could be pushed into hunger and financial instability. "Wait...so people who rely on SNAP aren't an emergency? Children going hungry isn't an emergency? not feeding Americans isn't an emergency? Food pantries going empty isn't an emergency? We just gave $40 BILLION away to a corrupt government. WTF am I missing here??" one person wrote after Leavitt's comment. "Chaos, dysfunction, and incompetence. There’s no communication, one contradicts the other, these people are amatuer hour," another said after the whole ordeal. What are your thoughts?
