Travis Kelce Responds After Testy Interaction With Bills Fans in Buffalo

Travis Kelce addressed the viral interaction he had with Bills fans during the Chiefs’ loss in Buffalo over the weekend. “Going up to Buffalo is not an easy thing,” Kelce, 36, said Wednesday, November 5, on his “New Heights” podcast. “That stadium was rocking. The place was electric. Shout-out to all the Bills Mafia that was talkin’ all the s*** in the world. I love it.” Near the end of the first half of the Chiefs’ game against the Bills at Highmark Stadium on Sunday, November 2, Kelce was seen jawing with Buffalo fans on his way into the locker room. Kelce was caught by CBS cameras riling up the crowd, putting his hand to his ear and mouthing, “I love it, I love it.” “It’s a sacred place to play a football game, man,” Kelce said on the podcast. “I cherish every game I get an opportunity to go up there. But that s*** sucks when you don’t come away with a victory out there because they let you have it.” The Bills defeated the Chiefs 28-21 on Sunday. Unless the Chiefs and Bills meet in Buffalo this postseason, the game would mark Kelce’s final game at the iconic stadium. The Bills are moving into new stadium digs at the start of next season. “It’s frustrating,” Kelce said of the loss. “It’s frustrating, especially when you put it on yourself.” Kelce caught four passes for 66 yards on Sunday, failing to find the end zone. His next touchdown reception will break a tie with Priest Holmes for most touchdown catches in Chiefs history. The Chiefs head into their bye week with a 5-4 record and currently on the outside of the current AFC playoff picture. “We gotta get this s*** going, man,” Kelce said. “The schedule doesn’t get much easier. Our next three opponents are absolutely on fire.” Kansas City returns to action on Sunday, November 16, traveling to Denver to face the AFC West-leading Broncos. The following week, the Chiefs host the Indianapolis Colts, who currently lead the AFC South. Kelce and the Chiefs then travel to play the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving. The Chiefs have dealt with a rash of injuries this season, but Kelce wasn’t willing to use that as an excuse. “We’ve got the players that we need,” he argued. “Even if it’s the ‘next man up’ mentality, we still got the guys that can get the job done. We just have to keep f***ing figuring it out.” Kelce lamented the Chiefs usually high-powered offense with making things difficult on themselves. “The biggest thing was 3rd-and-longs,” he said. “We gotta get out of 3rd-and-longs. It’s alright if you have a few of them. But when you have over a handful of them — if you’ve got like five or six 3rd-and-8, 3rd-and-10 plus — you’re making your day way harder.” Kelce’s assessment was echoed by Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes after the loss to the Bills. “There’s no easy games coming up,” Mahomes, 30, told reporters on Sunday. “There’s no more chances that we can really take losses. We’ve got to be better as a team.”
