Tommy Chicago's Pizzeria Closing After 18 Years In Minnesota

It’s the end of a delicious era for one of Minnesota’s favorite pizza spots. After years of serving up cheesy slices and community memories, this beloved restaurant has announced it will close its doors for good in December. It's news that has become more and more commonplace lately across the Land of 10,000 Lakes: Restaurants that are going out of business and permanently closing. Why, just last week that we got word that Salut Bar Americain, on France Avenue South in Edina, will be shutting its doors for good at the end of the year. Another Beloved Minnesota Restaurant Is Saying Goodbye A few weeks before that, we got the surprise news that Gina Maria's Pizza abruptly closed all four of its Minnesota locations as well. That popular pizza restaurant, which was founded in 1975, had locations in Chanhassen, Eden Prairie, Edina, and Plymouth, and abruptly closed all of them in mid-October. And those closings weren't just limited to pizza places, either. Back in July, the classic restaurant, Annie's Parlour, located in the Minneapolis Dinkytown neighborhood near the University of Minnesota, also shut its doors for good after having been in business since 1974. Popular Mendota Heights Pizza Spot Closing for Good Back in February came the news that the Dark Horse Bar & Eatery in St. Paul announced it was closing for good on Valentine's Day. Thankfully, it's now open again with new owners. And before that, diners in Woodbury and Lake Elmo were shocked when The Machine Shed, the longtime restaurant that had been open for over 20 years just off I-94, posted a sign on its doors saying it was now closed. Now, sadly, Tommy Chicago's Pizzeria, on Main St. in Mendota Heights, has announced that it will be cooking its last deep-dish pizza next month. Tommy Chicago’s Owners Thank Loyal Customers After 18 Years In a post on Tommy Chicago's website, the restaurant, which first opened in the southeast metro back in 2002, said its last day in business will be coming up in December: It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closing of Tommy Chicago’s Pizzeria effective December 20, 2025. For the past 18 years, we have been honored to serve you, our community. We've celebrated countless team pizza parties, birthdays, anniversaries, and special moments within these walls. Your support has meant the world to us, and we are eternally grateful for the memories we've created together. Tommy Chicago's is owned by Mike Magnuson and his wife, Katie, BringMeTheNews reported, noting that they took over the business from Mike's uncle, Tommy Magnuson. The story noted that after 18 years, the family is 'ready to move on and begin a new chapter,' it said. According to the Tommy Chicago website, the restaurant was known for serving Chicago-style pizza, using 'a family recipe,' and served pizzas like deep dish, stuffed-crust, thin, traditional, as well as serving calzones. Of course, while there has been a spate of restaurants closing for good lately in Minnesota, the trend of going out of business isn't just limited to eateries. Keep scrolling to check out some once-familiar stores and other businesses that have also closed their doors permanently.
