TLH airport could be affected by national flight reductions

A prolonged federal shutdown is expected to cause flight reductions at major airports across the nation. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced a potential 10% reduction in flights at 40 major airports. Tallahassee International Airport will likely see flight reductions amid flight cuts to major airports nationwide as the country's longest federal shutdown continues to affect air travel operations. Forty airports are flagged to face flight cuts roughly three weeks ahead of the busy Thanksgiving holiday travel rush, although the list of airports could change once an official list is released by the FAA, according to USA Today, citing ABC News and CBS News. "It's going to lead to more cancellations, but we are going to work with the airlines to do this in a systematic way," Duffy said. Federal officials said Wednesday, Nov. 5, that flight cuts are coming to major airports amid the funding crisis, which has now lasted for 37 days, according to USA Today. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said there will be a 10% reduction in flights at 40 major airports at the end of the week. Several of the flagged airports are connection hubs for the airlines serving Tallahassee's airport, including Charlotte Douglas International (CLT) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL). Tallahassee airport and city officials have not provided details regarding specific impacts to the state capital's airport. The Tallahassee Democrat contacted Tallahassee Airport Director David Pollard multiple times and did not receive a response. As of the morning of Nov. 6, most arrivals and departures were listed as "on time" with only a handful of flights listed as late, generally between 10 to 30 minutes.
