Battlefield 6 has a new mode called REDSEC. This is a battle royale experience that features a few different game modes, weapon rarity, optional missions, and the quintessential encroaching ring of fire. There’s a lot to learn about this new mode, so this guide will lay out general tips, explanations about REDSEC and how to play, how reviving works, and much more. What is REDSEC? REDSEC is a free-to-play battle royale mode set within Battlefield 6. Players drop into a map, search for weapons, complete optional missions for gear, and kill other players, all while they are slowly forced into smaller and smaller portions of the map by a ring of fire. The game ends when only one team, or player, is left standing. How to launch REDSEC REDSEC is launched either through the Battlefield 6 game via the REDSEC option on the left or through the free-to-play installation of REDSEC. After you have selected REDSEC, you must then choose between three main versions: Gauntlet, Duos, and Squads. Duos and Squads are your classic battle royale modes. Teams will either consist of two players in Duos or four players in Squads, 50 or 25 teams, respectively. Gauntlet has players focus on completing objectives – you must complete your mission in order to survive. Keep doing missions until you’re the last player or team alive. What should I do first in REDSEC? Your main goal in REDSEC is to be the last person alive. As such, what action you take at any point in time should be in service to this goal. Here are some barebones steps: Land in a location with zero or few other teams Loot crates for weapons and gear (grenades, airstrikes, etc) Select and complete optional missions for additional powerful gear Flee from the NXC circle of fire toward the centre of the next circle Fight other players or flee from conflict Ideally, you want to be pressing forward and into the next circle whenever the wall of fire gets close. The circle will shrink, until there’s barely enough room for two teams to survive. While it’s shrinking, try and get a build you like by scavenging or completing missions. Other players may fight you – deal with the situation as necessary. How weapons & gear work in REDSEC REDSEC will drop you into the map with only a pistol and a knife. As soon as you land, this is where the mad scramble to find a weapon begins, and hopefully one that suits your class. Each weapon you pick up is graded on a color scale starting at the lowest point: gray, green, blue, purple, and gold. There is one other type that falls outside of this scale: red weapons. Common (gray) Uncommon (green) Rare (blue) Advanced (purple) Superior (gold) Personal favorite (red) The more attachments a weapon has, the better it performs, and the higher up the scale it goes. You don’t have to rely on luck alone to get a good weapon, as there are ways to upgrade your guns. This will change a green gun into a blue one, and so on. However, until you have a purple (or red) gun, you should be on the lookout for weapon containers as you search compounds. These caches look like crates, cases, and safes, which are lying around the ground, in the back of cars, and other vehicles. As I suggested, you will want to find a weapon that suits your class. You’re not going to have a great time with a sniper rifle if you’re playing on Assault. To that end, it’s important to choose the right class. What are red guns? Red guns are your personal favorite weapon loadouts you have created outside of a match. These are weapons you have upgraded, added attachments to, and otherwise tweaked to your preferred playstyle (the ones you use in the main multiplayer mode for Battlefield 6). You can get a red weapon from the Custom Weapon Drops that spawn on the map. These droppods look like a torpedo or missile jutting out of the ground. Interact with the Custom Weapon Drop to see all weapons you have marked with the “Favorite” button. Select the gun you want to receive it from the cache. Depending on how upgraded the weapon is, this may be better than a purple/gold weapon or it might be worse. What class to play in REDSEC When you first launch REDSEC, you will be able to select which class you play. Much like Battlefield 6, each one has its own set of tools, benefits, and weapon proficiencies. For example, the Engineer starts with a blowtorch that can crack open safes. In an ideal world, you would have one of each class in your squad. How does reviving work? In REDSEC, once you lose all of your armor and health, you will drop to the ground. Here, you can crawl into a safe place where an ally can revive you. While on the ground, a timer will tick down, when it reaches zero, you die. Alternatively, an enemy can keep shooting you until you expire. The good news is that REDSEC has a forgiving revive system for the first several minutes of a match. If you die early on, you will be able to parachute back into the fight and rejoin your squad. Further into the match, all players will be notified that there are no more second chances – which means if you die, it will take more effort to bring you back. Once the second chances expire, you must go to a redeploy point to revive any downed allies. It’s more of a to-do, as it takes a while and other players will hear the respawn alarm. Check out our larger guide on how to redeploy teammates for more info. What are missions? Every several minutes, REDSEC gives players a few missions to pick from. The squad leader will select the mission via the map screen and then all players in the squad should work to complete it. Upon completing a mission, a reward will be airdropped on your location. The rewards can be better weapons, equipment like airstrikes, even keycards that give you access to tanks. Most of the missions require you to go to a specific location, destroy, carry, or transmit data, and then head to another location to complete the objective. Once a mission is started, on-screen icons will show any objective’s location and a few words will specify the task. Some of these missions will involve engaging with other players in PvP. We've got a comprehensive mission guide for more information on all the optional objectives. As you can see, there’s a lot to learn about Battlefield 6 REDSEC. Take some time to familiarize yourself with the missions, weapon rarity, and revive system to ensure you have a good chance of surviving the ring of fire and maybe even winning the match.
