A new lunchtime sandwich shop has opened up on Pigeon Park - inside an old phone box. The Sandwich Box opened on Monday, November 3 on Temple Road West right opposite Damascena and The Old Joint Stock. Jay Jones, 35, lives in Bromsgrove and while his new sandwich shop is new, he's no stranger to Birmingham's food and drink scene. His other business, Pietanic, is also beloved by Brummies who have sampled Jay's pies at Villa Park and over at St Andrew's. Pietanic pies are also a feature of the Glastonbury food and drink line-up, so thousands of people will have tried Jay's food without realising it. The entrepreneur said: "I saw the phonebox at auction a couple of years ago and had a million ideas for it. "Initially I thought about opening a little bagel thing but obviously space is really limited! "It's taken me this long to do sandwiches. They're prepared fresh each morning and I bring them into town." Jay doesn't even have space to sit down in his phonebox but there's just enough space to stock the £6 sandwiches, with options including chicken tikka and mango chutney, roast beef and truffle mayo, cheese and chilli jam and coronation cauliflower. He also sells Piper's crisps and cans of pop for £1.50 each, with meal deals priced at £7.95. The phone box is open from 10-2 Monday to Friday. Jay said: "I just thought, let's open it and see what happens! We haven't got social media or anything, but people have been really interested, walking by and taking photos. "I'm hoping that when people buy the sandwiches, they'll take them back to the office and love them and come back. "I want to fill the gap between a supermarket meal deal and the amazing Anderson and Hill sandwiches in Great Western Arcade. "There's not much in this middle space, so here I am." The Sandwich Box is opposite Damascena and The Old Joint Stock on Temple Road West, B2 5NY.
