The government’s efforts to strengthen the delivery of quality healthcare services across Guyana has been further boosted with the graduation of 38 patient care assistants from the Ministry of Health’s programme in Region Five. According to a release from the Ministry of Health, the programme which was implemented through its Health Sciences Education Division serves as a key initiative in expanding the healthcare workforce, particularly in regional and community health facilities. It explained that the newly trained patient care assistants are now equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide direct, hands-on care to patients under the supervision of nursing assistants or registered nurses. Their training covered essential areas such as basic nursing care, infection prevention and control, patient hygiene, communication, and ethics in healthcare delivery.
