They’re accused of trying to kill owner of Macomb County mansion. Here’s how they know him

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Prosecutors have revealed how the people accused of trying to ambush and kill a well-known businessman at his Macomb County mansion knew him in the first place. Eddie Jawad, the owner of several gas stations around Metro Detroit, was backing out of his Macomb Township driveway on the morning of Oct. 14, 2025, when a gunman emerged from behind a vehicle and fired shots. Officials later said the man in that surveillance footage is Jasan Martin, 32. Martin is accused of entering the property and hiding under a parked vehicle in the driveway before shooting Jawad. Jawad was struck by gunfire, but survived. On Monday, Nov. 3, 2025, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido announced that Martin and his brother, Rachard Deandre Huffman, 39, of Sterling Heights, have been arraigned on charges of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Prosecutors also revealed how the duo was connected to Jawad. Huffman worked for Jawad Investments for two years from August 2023 to August 2025, the release says. Huffman’s wife, Dawn Huffman, was the office manager for Jawad Investments at the time of the shooting, prosecutors said. She was the office manager for Jawad’s business and worked for him for over 22 years, they said. Dawn Huffman is facing an embezzlement charge that comes with a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, as well as a five-year conspiracy to embezzle charge. Prosecutors said Dawn Huffman handled a credit card intended to pay DTE bills for multiple Jawad Investments properties. She is accused of using that card to embezzle more than $100,000. Prosecutors said Martin and Rachard Huffman conspired to silence Jawad and prevent him from pursuing the matter. “Conspiracy to commit murder stands among the most evil and reprehensible of all crimes,” Lucido said. “It represents not only a willingness to take an innocent life, but a deliberate and premeditated plan to do so. I commend the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office for their diligent efforts in bringing these individuals to face justice.” Jasan Martin charges Martin was previously facing the following charges in this case: Assault with intent to murder -- maximum penalty of life in prison. Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person -- a five-year felony. Carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent -- a five-year felony. Three felony firearm violations -- two-year felonies that run consecutive to the main charges. He also had a habitual offender -- fourth offense notice, which subjects him to mandatory life in prison, if convicted on any of the primary felonies. During Martin’s probable cause conference on Nov. 3 at 41A District Court in Shelby Towship, Judge Stephen Sierawski added the conspiracy to commit first-degree premeditated murder charge. That charge comes with a maximum penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Sierawski continued Martin’s $1 million bond. He is being held at the Macomb County Jail. A preliminary examination is scheduled for Nov. 24, 2025. Rachard Huffman charges Rachard Huffman was also arraigned Nov. 3, 2025, on the following charges: Conspiracy to commit first-degree murder -- maximum penalty of life in prison. Conspiracy to commit embezzlement of an agent or trustee of between $1,000 and $20,000 -- a five-year felony. His bond was set at $1 million, cash/surety. If he is released, he must wear a GPS tether and avoid contact with Martin and Dawn Huffman. A probable cause conference is scheduled for Nov. 17, 2025, and a preliminary examination is scheduled for Nov. 24, 2025. Both are at 41A District Court in Shelby Township. Dawn Huffman charges Dawn Huffman, 44, of Sterling Heights, is charged with: Embezzlement of $100,000 or more -- a 20-year felony. Conspiracy to commit embezzlement of an agent or trustee of between $1,000 and $20,000 -- a five-year felony. Her bond was set at $500,000, cash/surety. If she is released, she must wear a GPS tether and avoid contact with Martin and Rachard Huffman. A probable cause conference is scheduled for Nov. 17, 2025, and a preliminary examination is scheduled for Nov. 24, 2025. Both are at 41A District Court in Shelby Township.
