The Tavern Bar & Restaurant, Mussoorie, relaunches with a fresh menu

The Tavern Bar & Restaurant, an iconic, over 50-year-old resto-bar and lounge located on Mall Road, Mussoorie, blending colonial-era charm with a contemporary, upbeat vibe, has reimagined its menu for today’s times. The relaunched menu pays homage to Tavern’s legendary classics while embracing contemporary flavours. Guests can savor the timeless signatures from the much-loved Mikki Takki Soup to the iconic Butter Chicken, while discovering bold new offerings inspired by both Himalayan traditions and global influences. Rajat Kapur, The Tavern Management, said, “The Tavern, even for me, has always been more than just a restaurant. It has been intertwined in the cultural memory of Mussoorie. With this relaunch, we celebrate the dishes that people have cherished for decades, while introducing new creations that reflect today’s evolving tastes. Our goal is simple. To ensure every guest continues to leave with a belly full of fun and a heart full of memories.” The Tavern Bar & Restaurant has always been known for its rustic interiors—featuring wooden beams, dim lighting, leather seating, and vintage décor—that create a warm, pub-like atmosphere reminiscent of an old English tavern, yet with a modern edge. Its name has been woven into the cultural fabric of Mussoorie since 1972. The Tavern has always been known for its live music sessions, karaoke nights, and vibrant atmosphere. The Tavern offers an experience that is both relaxing and spirited, making it one of Mussoorie’s most popular evening hangouts for couples, families seeking a memorable meal, or a group of friends chasing a night of fun. For more than fifty years, Tavern has been more than just a restaurant. It has been a landmark where locals and travellers gathered for soulful food, warm spirits, and a sense of belonging. Today, Tavern is stepping into a new era, bringing together its rich heritage and fresh inspirations with an updated menu that celebrates both nostalgia and innovation. “When Tavern first opened its doors, it introduced pub culture to the quiet hill town. Over the years, its walls have witnessed Bollywood stars dancing late into the night, Lakmé-sponsored fashion shows lighting up the floor, and live music that gave Mussoorie its own rhythm. Its tagline, “A Belly Full of Fun,” became more than a promise. It became an experience, one that generations of visitors still hold close to their hearts,” further continued Sandeep Sahni from the Tavern Management. The newly reimagined menu features local dishes like Kandali Jhangora Kofta and Timmuri Chicken Tikka, which celebrate the unique flavors of the hills, utilizing local grains, spices, and mountain herbs. Global favourites, including Gochujang Papaya Salad, Korean Stir-Fried Chicken, and Massaman Lamb Curry, showcase international styles reimagined with Tavern’s signature flair. Indulgent Grills and Tandoor from the Frontier Lamb Rack, marinated for 48 hours, to the Zaituni Murgh Seekh, every dish is crafted to bring guests closer to Tavern’s rich culinary heritage. This menu has something for everyone. A wide spread of small plates, breads, Asian mains, and sizzlers ensures that whether guests are seeking comfort food or adventurous flavours, the menu has a story for every mood.
