The Hills Worth Dying On

Millennials Are Sharing The “Correct But Cringe” Hills They Will Absolutely Die On, And They Have Nothing To Do With Skinny Jeans Or Ankle Socks "Stating your number when leaving a voicemail. Double points if you do it at the beginning and again at the end." As every generation ages, it's pretty likely that the generations below them will start judging them for the things they do and say. Being considered "cringe" by the youths is a rite of passage in adulthood, and it is a cycle that will continue for all of time. Knowing that millennials have been getting a lot of heat lately (what's new?), a Reddit user by the name of dasisglucklich recently asked the r/millennials subreddit, "What's the SILLIEST 'cringe but correct' millennial hill you're still ready to die on?" They kicked things off by sharing their own "cringe but correct" take, saying, "I will forever maintain that using 'LOL' for anything that is not actually funny is an essential form of emotional regulation in texts. If you send me an annoying task or deeply disappointing news, my response is 'Will do LOL,' or 'Oh man, that sucks LOL.' The LOL isn't a laugh; it's a silent scream. It means, 'I acknowledge this, I'm slightly annoyed, but I am responding with a pleasant, non-threatening digital sigh.' It is the most valuable punctuation mark we have." The rest of the responses had me LOL-ing in a non-silent-scream kind of way. Here's what everyone had to say: 1. "Big decisions and big purchases are for big screens, not my phone." 2. "Stating your number when leaving a voicemail. Double points if you do it at the beginning and again at the end." —u/thesy5temfire "You gotta say it twice, once as a warning to grab your pen and a second time slowly as the real deal. LOL." —u/Icy_Sea_4440 3. "ASL does not mean 'as hell.' ASL only means two things: American Sign Language and age/sex/location." —u/PerfectDebt8218 4. "I will die with my highlighter makeup collection clutched tightly in my cold, dead hands, face shining like the moon. Glitter is life." 5. "End-of-sentence emojis as tone clarifiers might be cringe, but they've led to me having fewer silly arguments due to misunderstandings. I stand by them." —u/chocoheed "I use emojis professionally. I believe it makes me come off as friendly and approachable when I tell customers I will definitely look into that escalation. 😇😉🫠" —u/Sir_Poofs_Alot 6. "I will never give up comfort camisoles. If I ever have only one layer on, I have been replaced by a pod person." —u/BlackQuartzSphinx_ "My 11-year-old calls them my 'emotional support tank tops.' I have so many and wear them every day." —u/picardstastygrapes 7. "I’m gonna put my hands in the air when I dance. Especially at a concert. Going to concerts where people's hands are only in the air when they are holding their phones is wild to me!!" 8. "Until one streaming service has every movie or show ever made and is readily available at all times, I will continue to collect DVDs/Blu-rays of the movies and shows I want to watch." —u/Cal_858 9. "Screens in cars are ugly. Give me knobs and buttons!" —u/MakesYourMise "YESSSSS!!! Like, it's so counterintuitive to the whole 'don't text and drive' thing. What's the difference when your radio is a literal tablet?!" —u/sniffleprickles 10. "I have to tap the top of a soda can before opening it. I will always do it no matter what." 11. "CDs will forever be the superior music format. Drag me if you must, but my thumbs typed what they typed." —u/Chaotic_Bonkers 12. "I find it hilarious that the generation who taught us not to believe everything we see on the internet, IS FALLING FOR EVERYTHING THEY SEE ON THE INTERNET! I am highly skeptical of reports I see on social media unless they come from a reliable source. It's how I learned how to use the internet. And now it's being used in a way that our parents' generation was worried about, BUT THEY ARE THE ONES RESPONSIBLE FOR IT. So I guess my hill is that it's still important to be wary of the things you see on the internet, but everyone is so indifferent about it now, and it drives me nuts." —u/Golferdude456 13. "I can't seem to part with my printer. Does it have ink? No. But, I may need it one day!" 14. "Paper menus are the correct way to order food when dining in. I am not scanning a QR code." —u/EarthTrash 15. "'Appointment' television was more fun. Getting a good cliffhanger and having a week to talk about it with your friends before the next episode, and you didn't have to deal with some jackass who binged the whole thing the second it was released spoiling it for you. It was fun waiting until September, when all the new shows and seasons would premiere, and there were fewer multi-year delays between seasons." —u/MissMaster 16. "They aren't flared leggings, they are yoga pants, and they have to touch the ground. I work in a high school and I’m so sick of seeing kids wearing high-water pants — we would have been roasted so hard for that." 17. "If I buy a video game, I should be able to play it as soon as I get home and not wait hours for it to download and update." —u/aggressiveanswer_ 18. "I refuse to buy everything online. Sometimes, you need the in-person store experience so you can see how stuff actually looks and feels. I don't want a nice-looking but scratchy AF blanket or the painting that looked a different color online. And I definitely don't want to wait weeks for a refund if I need to return it. I just want to go to the store, buy it, and be done with it." —u/InjurySensitive 19. "Not everything needs to be 'smart.' I don’t need a smart windshield, smart glasses, or a smart watch. Like, fuck — I have a phone and a TV. That's as much smart stuff as I need." 20. "Blowing air inside Nintendo game cartridges was actually helpful. I know because I was there." —u/Jetlaggedz8 21. "'I don't owe anybody anything!' Actually, yeah, yeah, you do owe people things. We all owe each other kindness and a bit of compassion. One could argue that people forgetting or intentionally casting these things aside is why we are where we are right now as a culture." —u/RndmAvngr 22. And finally, "IT'S NICE TO LIKE THINGS! Seriously, surround yourself with people who won't judge you for authentically liking the things you like. Anyone else doesn't matter." Are you a millennial who has a 'cringe but correct' hill that you're willing to die on? Tell me what it is in the comments (or the anymous form)! Your response could be used in an upcoming BuzzFeed article! Note: Responses have been edited for length/clarity.
