While on business in Iowa, I also got to see a twister touch down. We had been eating lunch at a truck stop when it was announced that three twisters had landed nearby and everyone was to head to shelters. The printing plant I was visiting was the local shelter, so we headed back into town. On the way, our driver was telling us that if he suddenly swerved over to the side of the road, we were to jump out and lay flat in the ditches. I saw a gap in a cornfield with a firetruck sitting next to it. The fireman was standing on top of the truck looking down the gap with a pair of binoculars. I followed his gaze and watched a black snake emerge from the mass of clouds and touch down. We raced on, and made it to the shelter in time.
