Tesco issues statement as major service axed in Express stores

Tesco has confirmed a major service across its Express store will be "coming to an end" as the retailer ends its partnership with delivery service Evri. The supermarket has revealed it will be closing down its over-the-counter Parcel Shop services currently available in Tesco Express stores. The service allowed shoppers to send, receive and return parcels through the Evri ParcelShop service in Tesco Express stores. However Tesco has revealed it is currently in the process of "winding down" the service across stores, saying it will provide information on when the service will cease on a store-by-store basis. "We are in the process of winding down this service in our stores and will display details in individual stores of when the service will stop at that location. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The news comes after Asda announced last week it had partnered with Evri to offer ParcelShops at around 300 of its stores , giving shoppers the opportunity to collect and return parcels while doing their usual shopping. Asda added it would be looking to roll out ParcelShops across its Express convenience stores, supermarkets and superstores. An Evri spokesperson said: "We have been reviewing our network of ParcelShops and Lockers closely to meet customer demand and earlier this year announced a £50 million investment to double our network to 25,000 locations by 2030. "As part of this review, we’re currently rolling out our ParcelShop service in 1,200 Asda stores – more than 300 of which are already live. "Our partnership with Tesco Clubcard continues, whilst ParcelShop services will no longer be available in Tesco Express stores from 28th November. Customers can find their nearest ParcelShop or Locker at www.evri.com/find-a-parcelshop." Other major UK supermarkets have also announced partnerships with delivery services over the past year, with Sainsbury's revealing in April that it would be partnering with Royal Mail to roll out parcel lockers across a number of its stores.
