Scotland's best-loved beer brand, Tennent's Lager , has unveiled a culinary creation like no other - the world's first ever Square Wurst, a Scottish favourite reimagined with a German twist. The launch celebrates the debut of Tennent's Bavarian Pilsner, a limited-edition beer that pays tribute to the brand's 140-year-old connection to Bavaria. More than a century ago, Hugh Tennent travelled to Bavaria and discovered the crisp, refreshing pilsner style that would go on to inspire his own creation, Tennent's Lager - the first commercially produced lager in the UK. Now, in honour of that journey, Tennent's is returning to its roots with a Bavarian-inspired lager, crafted using Scottish ingredients and traditional German brewing methods. To mark the occasion, Tennent's has introduced the Square Wurst, a creative mash-up of two national icons, the Scottish square sausage and the German bratwurst. The result? A hearty, flavour-packed roll that's "a Scottish classic with a German twist." Served with dill-pickle sauerkraut, Tennent's mustard and a can of Tennent's Bavarian Pilsner, the Square Wurst offers the perfect balance of rich, smoky flavour and crisp refreshment. Fans eager to get their hands on the Square Wurst and limited edition Tennent's can do so at three locations across Scotland. Each venue will serve the Square Wurst and a can of Tennent’s Pilsner for £10, offering food lovers and beer enthusiasts a taste of this one-of-a-kind collaboration. Joanne Motion, Senior Brand Manager at Tennent's Lager, explained the inspiration behind the launch. She stated: "There is nothing more Scottish than a roll and square sausage, and in Germany, the same can be said for a wurst. Creating the world’s first Square Wurst is a fun homage to our Bavarian roots and a delicious way to try our new limited edition." The debut of Tennent's all those years ago changed the way we view beer today, as Joanna explained: "It’s been 140 years since Tennent’s changed the brewing landscape in Scotland, and there is no better way to celebrate than by releasing a limited edition lager in the style that inspired it all." The collaboration also brings together some of Scotland’s most exciting food creators. With Gregg Boyd, founder of Auld Hag, expressing: "The Square Wurst is brilliant - bringing two iconic food cultures together to give the people of Scotland a true Scotland 'meats' Germany experience is what it’s all about. "Our recipe uses the best Scottish ingredients, inspired by much-loved Bavarian flavours that we just know our customers are going to love."
