A group of teenagers who were caught on camera launching fireworks at another group at a park in Manchester fled the scene before police arrived. The footage, which showed a 'group of lads' hurling the lit devices directly towards others , was recorded in Hulme Park on Monday evening (October 27). One witness said the incident erupted while the park was 'busy with dog walkers' and that he called the police shortly afterwards. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed this morning that officers were called to the scene last night over reports of 'youths throwing fireworks out of their hands'. The witness added on Monday evening that the issue is a recurring problem with groups launching the fireworks at one another 'every couple of nights'. They said: "There were two groups of lads. The ones doing the firing were aiming the fireworks at the other group. It occurred three separate times over around 20 minutes. "I am guessing they were known to each other. The worry is, it was just after teatime, and the park was fairly busy with dog walkers, so my dog freaked out. "The police responded straight away when I called the second time when they started again. I don't know if they managed to speak to them, but the kids would have run off anyway. "It's an ongoing problem. It's happening every couple of nights, firing them at each other, and someone is going to get caught up or hurt in this. The potential is horrific. "It's really disconcerting and seems to be getting worse, not better." --- Day in day out, our reporters in the Manchester Evening News newsroom bring you remarkable stories from all aspects of Mancunian life.
