A delegation from the Syrian Ministry of Interior participated in the 27th Annual Conference of the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA), held in Turkey, to discuss reforms to Syria’s prison system. The event, held from October 26 to 31, brought together delegations from 85 countries and several international organizations concerned with prison reform. This year’s theme was “Wellbeing in Corrections: Initiatives for Staff, Systems, and Communities.” In a statement posted on its Telegram channel on Sunday, the Ministry said conference sessions focused on developing systems within correctional institutions, enhancing staff efficiency, improving inmate welfare and health, and sharing international expertise on modern rehabilitation and reintegration programs. On the sidelines of the conference, the Syrian delegation held several bilateral meetings with representatives of various countries and international organizations to discuss opportunities for cooperation and the exchange of expertise in rehabilitation, reform, and prison management. The Ministry said Syria’s participation reflects its ongoing efforts to develop the prison system in line with international standards and to promote justice and social reform.
