“Syracuse Playlist” is a quarterly feature on syracuse.com highlighting music from local artists. If you’re a Syracuse-area musician, email gherbert@syracuse.com to share your music, including your artist name, song/album title, a brief description of your sound, where to listen to your music, and the best place for fans to follow you online. * * * * * Looking for some local music to add to your playlists? “Syracuse Playlist” is a quarterly feature from syracuse.com | The Post-Standard highlighting Syracuse-area musicians. Each month, we’ll share the latest in rap, rock, folk, R&B, country, pop, EDM, jazz, blues and more in Central New York so you can find bands, singers and rappers that you like and follow them. Songs are also featured in a Spotify playlist called “Syracuse Playlist.” You can listen with a free Spotify account (or a paid subscription) and click on each artist to hear more of their songs, share them or add them to your own playlists to listen to at home or on a mobile device. (Cell phone data or WiFi may be required.) New additions to the playlist include rock, pop, hip-hop, alternative and more. Enjoy! Note: Some songs may contain explicit lyrics not suitable for younger audiences. * * * * * Sydney Irving - “Never Let You Go” Sydney Irving is a local singer-songwriter who won Best New Artist at the Syracuse Area Music Awards (SAMMYS) in 2022 and has been relentlessly performing her mix of Americana, pop, rock and modern folk music. She’s reaching for bigger audiences with her new album, “Unfashioned Creatures,” released last month through a record deal signed with Deko Entertainment, a label distributed by Warner Music Group / ADA. Recorded at SubCat Studios, the core duo of Gavin Landless and Bob Switalski even mixed in Brazilian percussion, a psaltery, bagpipes, a variety of strings and horns, and “villager voices.” For more info, visit dramfools.com. Anna Sofia Syracuse University alumnus Drew Taggart is one-half of the DJ duo The Chainsmokers, best known for EDM hits like “Closer,” “Don’t Let Me Down,” “Roses” and “Something Just Like This.” Taggart often contributes vocals, too, including on the catchy new Anna Sofia collaboration “Helium” from their latest EP, “Breathe.” For more info, visit thechainsmokers.com. Listen to Regal Hardware on Spotify and Bandcamp * * * * * Porch Couch - “You Know It’s a Good Thing” Porch Couch is an indie/alternative rock band from Ithaca describes its sound as “music that will make you want to sit in some comfy vibes and be in the moment, as well as make you wanted to get up and bop.” The groovy group will celebrate its new EP “Free” with an album release party Dec. 12 at Funk N Waffles in Syracuse. Bizarre Jeremy Romance, an Onondaga Central School and OCC graduate whose real name is Jeremy Miller, is a local musician who mixes alternative rock with emo rap. He previously performed in Syracuse with the band One Last Shot and has collaborated with hip-hop stars like Redman and the late Juice WRLD. His electrifying new song “Unhinged,” featuring D12 rapper Bizarre, will be on his next album out Nov. 14. Listen to Jeremy Romance on Spotify and YouTube * * * * * Silverset - “Akame” Silverset is an alternative rock trio consisting of Nicki Fruth (vocals), Grant Hespeler (guitar) and Jon Stenz (drums), two of whom are Syracuse University alumni. They combine catchy melodies, upbeat rhythms and honest lyrics into timeless-sounding original music. For more info, visit silverset.band. Listen to Silverset on Spotify * * * * * The Half-Cubes - “I’ll Be Taking Her Out Tonight” Tommy Allen and Gary Frenay are having a busy year. Multiple artists celebrated their Power Pop Hall of Fame band The Flashcubes with a tribute album in September (featuring new song “If These Hands”). Allen and Frenay next released an infectious 22-song collection of covers as their side project The Half-Cubes (a pop-centric duo also sometime styled as Half/Cubes) with “Found Pearls Pop Treasures, Vol. 2,” in October. Jadakiss Syracuse rapper Christenelle Diroc released two albums this year featuring collaborations with Jadakiss, Tommy Chong (of Cheech & Chong), Professor Griff (of Public Enemy), porn star Ricki Raxxx, and No Limit alum Mr. Serv-On. Born in Romania and put in an orphanage by Mother Theresa, Christenelle was adopted by a Tipperary Hill family and became a U.S. citizen in 1994, not meeting his birth family until recently. He attended Westhill High School and the Syracuse Academy of Science, learning how to rap between classes. His hustle has led to work with big names like George Clinton, Bubba Sparxxx, Petey Pablo, Mike Jones, B-Real (of Cypress Hill) and Kel Mitchell (of “Kenan & Kel” fame).
