Sydney Sweeney to become REAL boxer? Hollywood star 'serious' about surprise fight plans

American actress Sydney Sweeney says we could soon see her take part in a 'serious' boxing match after starring as a fighter in a new role on screen. The 28-year-old stars as Christy Martin in her latest movie Christy , which is officially released later this week. Martin spearheaded the rise of women's boxing in the 1990s and was the first woman to ever feature on the front cover of Sports Illustrated. The now 57-year-old held the WBC female super welterweight title in 2009 and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2020. The biopic explores Martin's career and later her husband's attempt to murder her in 2010. Sweeney shot to stardom for her roles in the TV series Euphoria and White Lotus, while also starring in the film Anyone But You, and says she's considering taking up boxing following working on her new film. Christy premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September, and Sweeney says she considered giving up acting to take up the fight game. "There was a moment in the middle of filming where I was like, 'Should I give it all up and fight because I love this?'", the Washington-born star said in an interview with Sportscasting. "Christy (Martin) said sign me up so this isn't as hypothetical as you actually think it is. Yeah, I'd totally do a charity bout, that'd be so sick." When quizzed about who she could face up against, Sweeney replied: "It's a surprise, you'll have to wait, I'm serious. You've got to stay tuned for the pay-per-view, and you'll see it." She may not look like she's spent much time in the ring, but Sweeney has revealed she actually spent much of her youth practising kickboxing and grappling, before adding that boxing was a whole new level. "For about two-and-a-half months, I would weight train in the morning for an hour, box three hours in the middle of the day and then another hour of weight training at night," she said on Good Morning America. "I put on 35 pounds and it was hard. I started losing weight once I upped my boxing time and had to find that balance. I was just continually pounding more and more protein shakes. "I loved it. I worked hardest on that left hook and I think what would get me through a fight is that I can take a punch. I wouldn't quit."
