A suspect has been charged in the shooting death of a 73-year-old man at a north Birmingham auto parts business. Jaden Ellis Sanders, 22, is charged with murder in the Friday slaying of Alfred Stephens. The Birmingham Police Department’s Crime Reduction Team took Sanders into custody Monday in the 1100 block of Hayden Road in Warrior Monday, said Sgt. LaQuitta Wade. He is being taken to the Jefferson County Jail where he will be held without bond pending a hearing. The shooting happened about 10:15 a.m. Friday at Pull-A-Part used auto parts at 3520 27th Ave. North off Vanderbilt Road. Officers dispatched to the scene arrived to find Stephens bleeding from his side. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service took the victim to UAB Hospital where he died on Saturday. Multiple officers and detectives responded to the scene. Police marked several shell casings in an area outside the main office. Wade said the preliminary investigation indicates a verbal altercation occurred between Stephens and Sanders.
